Hi Fellow Travelers,

When I retired several years ago, I realized that I didn’t know where to go or what to do next. I had known what to do at other junctions in my life. There was school, college, marriage, motherhood and career. That was all pretty structured.

I knew that different people did many different things when they retired but there were no directions or signposts that felt meaningful to me.

It usually meant slowing down but I was healthy. The societal wisdom was that I had done everything in life that was meaningful and it was time to “wrap it up”. However, it felt like a wasted life unless I understood the perspective and wisdom that I had gathered and why my life had been important.

I was at once excited and terrified. That understanding needed to come from inside me rather than any outside source. Self-help books had always been good guides for me. But now this was a story that had to come from deep within myself.

After some thought, I realized that perhaps I could share this experience with others by writing and giving talks. While each of our stories would be unique, together we could share the insights and experiences that we are having and a write a new personal biography. And also a new paradigm for living the second half of life with enthusiasm and meaning.

If you enjoy Keep Your Fork: Dessert Is On The Way: Savoring the Second Half of Life and would like me to speak with your group or book club I would like that.

Warmest Regards,
